EXTRACTS FROM ESTABLISED AND WRITTEN WORKS IN PROGRESS AND LYRICAL WRITING

Extract - THE REMOTE.

Taken from forthcoming book:'Lyrical Existential Writings.'

A collection of lyrics and words by Darren Purvis.

The Remote - an existential monologue about societal entrapment and a being in obligation by Darren Purvis.

Everything appears as it is meant to fade everything changes shape.

In The Remote there is no more rain, I want to rest and I want to escape but the external is pending upon my every movement, following.

If I can sit and forget then there is nothing to influence, but I remember the words, everything appears.  If I can distract the external I will have some relief, but them I remember the words; as it is meant to fade. If I can keep still long enough I can remain undetected then there is nothing and everything passes away and I feel unattached; I remember the words everything changes shape, everything changes.

What was once wind has become strands of a thin breeze lightly passing. The breeze is to too weak to create an impact yet strong enough to carry the dust which has taken the place of the air. This dust is soft in texture it blankets the ground and closes in on the throat;  drying the land the sea and our skin. The day has become night, it is the darkness that never leaves.

From moment to moment a searchlight will break in the distance, the senses are shuddered and disturbed. The atmosphere is differing shades of a blackness and grey, a magnificent hovering cloud illuminates everything but never leaks. It has an essence that is fixed as I remain a being in waiting, a being in obligation and a being in transience. Always stooped within the immediate arena of my world, surrounded by the ever present horizon. I am always within the framework of becoming,  foreclosing on myself, phasing and aligning myself with everyday expectation and everyday obligations.

THE SWORD

I found me in darkness

In  darkness my lord

I find I am  helpless

I never asked for your sword.

I know there is danger

And danger will be

Through shadows and wandering

I don’t ask for company

Why don’t you see the beauty in me,

why don’t you see the beauty in me

I travelling lonesome

All day through to night

I learn how to follow

My own guiding light.

I know you are near me

But never do you glow

The landscape it changes

I outgrow all I know

Why don’t you see the beauty in me

Why don’t you see the beauty in me

The air is my constant

Prideful soul it does breathe

When everything absent

Balance all that I need

These desolate journeys

When wading through wars

My silence is comfort

Still no sign of  your sword.

Why don’t you see the beauty in me

Why don’t you believe in all I can be.

I found me in darkness, In  darkness my lord

I no longer feel helpless

I never asked for your sword.

ROOMS OF MY CHURCH

There is an ache of otherness In the rooms of my church

A hunger tuned hollow through deficiency and thirst.

The day will exit without purpose; you watch dusk drown at birth

There is an ache of otherness in the rooms of my church.

The air whispers for movement in the rooms of my church

The silence is heavy waiting to be heard

Threads of guilty confession waiting for expression

The air whispers for movement in the rooms of my church.

The floorboards are splintered in the rooms of my church

I bury my fortunes into the arms of the earth

I bury trinkets, a lullaby a trojan horse of poison wine

The floor boards are splintered in the rooms of my church

There is a resurrection in the rooms of my church

A light through every window, this light speckled with dirt.

I am nameless, redrawn, without history without form

There is a resurrection in the rooms of my church, there is a resurrection in the rooms of my church.

DELIVERANCE

We don't need to speak now,

We can be without words.

We can find what needs to be heard,

with silence.

I am silence,

I am indifference.

I am defiance,

I crave deliverance.

We weep together now,

we weep aload.

We can find,

what needs to be found,

with silence.

I am silence

I am indifference

I am defiance

I crave deliverance.

I can survive,

I will climb to find...

Deliverance.

I can survive.

Look in your eyes to find...

Delieverance

Look in your eyes to find...

Deliverance.

TOO LONG IN THIS LIGHT

Come the fever

Come the plague

The matrimony of slave and chain

Come the end skin will shed

Come the wine and come the bread

Come the fire come the penance

Come the release from a seasonal sentence

Come the heart Come the key

Come the shoulder come the tears

Come the flow come the stem

Come the torrents of excess

Come the spirit come the seed

Come the chill and come the breeze

That will blow the cinders of change

Along the road of new discovery

Come the flesh come the scars

Come the blood and breath of ours.

Come the shotgun come the wire

Come the din in the fading hour

Of the gun and the sun

Explodes into a million splints

Of gold that is sold

by the spiv sporting a jester grin

Come the assassination of free will

Come laws the restrictions of steel

Come the friend in need, the friend the thief

Come the hypocrites and the sly

Come the principles that are sacrificed.

Come the chill and come the breeze

That will blow the cinders of change

Along the road of new discovery

Come the flesh come the scars

Come the blood and breath of ours.

There is a journey deep in me

It begins with the crashing sea

The sun has gone

I have been here for too long,

There is a journey deep in me.

The darkest night walks by my side.

Dragging shadows, haunted following behind.

The sun has gone, I have been here for too long

There is a journey deep in me,

It begins with the crashing sea.
